Data Backup and Data Storages Using the Advanced Features of File Systems

SAN data storage

The main goal of this project is a familiarization with the protocol iSCSI and with its implementation into the SAN network. Firstly, the focus is aimed towards a theoretical analysis of the SAN data storage, description of its individual parts as well as its realization within the network. In the second part, the description of the protocol iSCI includes an explanation of particular abbreviations and terms. Every possibility of securing this protocol is fully processed and, moreover, the implementation in OS Linux and OS MS Windows Server is deeply explained. The practical part is devoted to configuring iSCSI Target in OS Linux and configuring iSCSI Initiator in OS linux and OS Windows. The last part is devoted to creating a Web interface to control the iSCSI Target.

Network storage for virtualization

The diploma thesis is focused on expansion of current KVM virtualization infrastructure with network storage in a web hosting company environment. The first part describes the basics of the network storage field, and the virtualization field as well. This is amended by a description of the current solution in the company, which is going to be expanded. The searching for suitable innovative solution is following, several variants are found, each of them is commented and their advantages and disadvantages are summarized. The realization of the selected solution is implemented, including the testing on the practical part.

The paper introduces Red Hat company and its products. Basic concepts, e. g. Linux, distributions, clusters, high availability and several other concepts on this issue are explained. The differences between commercial and non-commercial Linux distributions are described further. Empirical part of the paper deals with the installation, configuration and the use of several key products of Red Hat company. The comparison of certain products and their characteristics with competitive products is also included in the paper.
